A MEDITATION ON PLACE AND TIME

The work I make is created by recording my immediate environment from the flow of meditation practice; aspects of time, place and transformation are subjects of focus. I produce large scale mixed media paintings combined with print techniques. The support is initially worked with wood relief print which creates a biomorphic pattern, on to which a layering of materials takes place. I select a range of drawing and painting media, after building up areas of line and pigment, I wipe away and fade out some areas often creating ghost marks. Along side traditional media; plants and organic materials are often used, I introduce collaged elements such as dried and pressed plants. This visual imagery is rooted in observations of my environment, that has undergone significant change in land use throughout history.
